SURVIVOR...Unquowa Style

 Welcome to Survivor Island!
Our adventure began in the dining room with a delicious pizza, hot dogs, nachos, cookies and cream puffs! After storing up enough "energy" the students had a wonderful time in a variety of team competitions. Shooting basketball hoops, jump roping, balloon popping were some of the exciting events. And who could forget the best hoola hooper of the event! After a final stop to "refuel", our adventure ended. Each student received a Survivor t-shirt as a souvenir of their experience. Our thanks to all our parents who hellped make this spectacular social such a success!

10-14-08  Peabody Museum Trip

On Tuesday, October 14, fourth and fifth grades went to The Peabody Museum. Our class had a workshop on Connecticut Wildlife. After a brief introduction on three dioramas, the students each chose a plant or animal to draw. They composed a question which was answered by our instructor. We also learned some information about woodpeckers...we can't wait until the woodpeckers return to the tree outside our window this Spring.

9-29-08      Expect the Unexpected...

After our visit to the farm, Chef Dan talked to third and fourth grades students about the harvest we brought back to school. He and Chef Peter prepared sauteed beet greens, among other things, for us to taste. After learning about the nutritional values of these foods, some of our class wandered into the kitchen to watch as they prepared pizza for lunch. Suddenly, the entire fourth grade was kneading small amounts of dough. Without missing a beat, Chefs Peter and Dan helped us assemble individual pizzas, labeled them, and told us to come back in 15 minutes. What a great snack we enjoyed!
Thank you Chef Peter and Chef Dan! We appreciate the time you spent with us.

9-29-08    Farm Field Experience

What a wonderful day at the farm! We learned so much about the importance of farming for our future. After a tour of all the crop beds, we harvested lettuce for our own salad bar at school. Thank you to our parent chaperons for assisting with the trip. We especially enjoyed the delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies for snack.

KNITTING HAS BEGUN !

As is our fourth grade tradition, we are learning to knit on circular looms. Each student will create a number of hats and/or scarves as part of our community service commitment. Last year we sent over three dozen items to Appalachia.

We are very thankful to the families that have donated such a wonderful selection of yarn for our projects, and to a special grandma who knit four hats to add to our collection.

First Day of School
